Elise Cowl by Beth Phelps

I originally designed this cowl in 2017 for an introductory design class, and it is my first design.  I originally used a  woolen-spun yarn from a very special light fawn baby alpaca named Elise. The yarn was 100% from Elise, no blends. Elise's story can be found in my blog.

I modified this cowl to accommodate for worsted-spun yarn which is most commonly used and readily available.  The Elise yarn was only available for this one project, and the woolen spun created a fuzzier, less defined texture.  This cowl was also modified to use an alpaca blend, which as soft as it is, 100% alpaca stretches without springing back to its original shape.  The third modification was to make the cowl with a smaller circumference to better hug my neck, and the basket weave gives the cowl structure to help it stay pulled up over my nose when needed.  Two sizes are offered, and both can be made with under 100g of sport-weight yarn.

Sizing note:  If you wish to make the cowl larger or smaller than provided in the pattern, simply add or subtract 18 sts from the cast-on instructions respectively.  Every 18 sts enlarges or reduces the cowl circumference by about 3".
