Tina Whitmore, owner of renowned Freia Fine Handpaint Yarns, is teaming up with The Spin-Off Yarn Shop to offer a workshop on yarn dyeing.
This special event is a fundraiser for shelter and care of the alpacas that were rescued from the Sweet Brook Farm fire. The yarn offered for the workshop comes from the very alpacas that were rescued, now known as Pachamama's Alpacas!
Participants will learn about the basics of the acid dyeing process and different effects that can be achieved such as semi-solid, variegated, and perhaps even self-striping yarns as time allows. A selection of colors in ready-mixed dyes will be offered for participants to create their own hand-dyed skeins. The dyed skeins will be heat-set overnight in Tina's oven. Participants can pick up their finished skeins at The Spin-Off Yarn Shop as early as the following Tuesday, or they can arrange for shipping. Participants should wear suitable clothing and closed-toe shoes for splatters and spills and expect to get messy!
All materials are included plus two skeins of Pachamama's Alpaca Yarn. Participants may choose between Trixie and Preston in White or Woolly Willis in light fawn. The photo below shows how each takes the same color. Additional skeins may be purchased for $14.99/skein. Maximum number of participants is 16.
About the Yarn: 50g ~ 135 yards / 75% Alpaca, 25% locally sourced wool / 6 sts/in on US #3-5
